Narutofan Thread: Fake Info

Fri Nov 2, 2007, 4:54 PM
I decided to make this journal because I noticed how many people use this Narutofan thread as a reference when drawing/writing anything related to the bijuus, inside and outside the naruto world . I think those people would like to know that MOST OF THE INFORMATION SHOWN THERE IS INCORRECT some may be asking: "Why? Nothing out there is not making sense, and the author says she researched!" well, aside from the fact that the very own author admits it, there are some things that prove that it's fake:

1- "Out of the 9 Bijuu, 5 of them were elemental gods, those being Shukaku, of the Wind; Kyuubi, of Fire; Isonade, of Water; Raijuu, of Lightning, and Kaku of Earth."
The beasts are not gods, the real elemental gods are: Fuujin of wind, Koujin of fire, Suijin of water,Raijin of thunder (Raijuu is his pet), Sarutahiko of earth. (Source: Wikipedia- Cathegory: Shinto Kami)

2-"His appearance is a black cat monster (depicted with huge, black angel wings). He’s the Death God’s pet. Nekomata feeds on dead people’s spirits, and can summon these to fight for him. He uses a third eye at the top of its head to consume the spirits."
I have looked at an awful lot of really good sources (such as Youkaimura, Obakemono Project and Wikipedia), but never found anything about it having to be black, having angel wings or a third eye. Nekomata are only normal cats with two tails that control the dead, not even their size is different from a normal cat's.

3-"Three Tails (Sanbi), Isonade"
See wikipedia, "It approaches boats stealthily and uses its hooked tail" ... Looks like Isonade has only one tail.

4-"Houkou will willingly destroy the nature to obtain the power he desires from these elements."
Excuse me, Houkou LOVES nature and kills anyone who harms it, how can a natural spirit destry nature? If you doubt, read the Youkaimura page on Houkou in case the page is with it's bandwidth exceeded: "Likes: Nature, trees

Dislikes: Disrespect for or harmful will towards nature"

(An important note is that the wikipedia article and the Obakemono project pages on Houkou are wrong; they refer to a chinese creature known as Peng'hou who is probably where the japanese took the basis for the legend of the Houkou, but with time the japanese legend ended up straying away completely from the chinese, the chinese Peng'hou are relatively weak, the Houkou is as strong as Nature itself)

5- "Fate: After receiving a severe wound, Houkou runs away to one of Japan's islands, and hides in a place near Kyushu’s Volcano - a giant tree, to heal his wound. But the tree's concrete position is not known by anyone."
Houkou does not escape to a tree, it has always lived there, that is confirmed by its strong bound to the tree.

6- "He was once badly injured when he and Nekomata challenged Kyuubi."
Houkou is badly injured by kyuubi. NO WAY. Why not? Imagine a fight between them:
"Kyuubi launches thunder at Houkou. Houkou lifts a stone wall and blocks the attack. Kyuubi gets pissed off and uses a fire blast at full power at Houkou. Houkou summons a Tsunami. Kyuubi is now a loser, a very wet loser."
He could take kyuubi on his own, imagine with help from the nekomata, then.

7- "Tale in the Legend of the Tailed Beasts: Raijuu, a bijuu in the form of weasel, has four legs and very sharp claws."
Raijuu has four legs? NO WAI *sarcasm* Well, Raijuu is not a weasel. Raijuu can be any beast, and they don't have four tails.

8- "Eight Tails (Hachibi), Yamata no Orochi (Also known as Hachimata)"
Orochi and Hachimata are not the same being. Hachimata doesn't have eight heads and are a lot smaller and weaker than mister Orochi was. Was, because he is already dead.

9- "Its powers were originally weak, the members of the Kusanagi clan, when attacking it, acted carelessly, using the legendary sword Kusanagi no Tsurugi (Oro’s sword). Because of that, as a consequence, Yamata no Orochi takes the sword from them, absorbing the power contained inside, and becoming an incredibly powerful creature, and finally storing it in its body."
No, that is not right. There was never such clan, and that is not where the sword's name came from. The name of the sword comes from a tale in which, after having taken the Kusanagi no Tsurugi prom Orochi's body, Susanoo gives the sword to his sister Amaterasu. Amaterasu kept it in a shrine in Ise. Some time later, Yamato-hime, the shrine's miko, gave it to her nephew Yamato Takeru. When Takeru was in a hunting expedition, he got trapped in an open grassland by a warlord, the warlord set the grass on fireso that Yamato would be burnt to death, but the warrior used Kusanagi to cut the grass. Upon noticing the sword controled wind, Takeru used it to direct the fire to the warlord and got his vengeace. He then decided to name the sword Kusanagi, "The grass-cutting sword".

10- " Yamata no Orochi proceeds to defeat many of the Bijuu, but when it battles with Kyuubi, it is defeated. The cause of this is simple: Kyuubi has an unlimited amount of power, making even a hole in the Kusanagi sword."
The Kyuubi can't have broken the sword, because Susanoo gets it intact when he kills Orochi.

11- " He continues though to be able to use freely the sword in his belly."
The sword is in Orochi's TAIL, not his belly, and he is not able to use it.

12- "Tale in the Legend of the Tailed Beasts: This is a bijuu in the shape of a nine-tailed fox, and the strongest of them all. The reason he is so powerful is simple: Kyuubi has an unlimited amount of power, earning it the “King of Bijuu” title."
Kyuubi DON'T have infinite power in japanese mythology, they are infinitely weaker than their ruler, the god Inari of rice, fertility and foxes.

13- "Japanese Myth Appearance: Kyuubi no Youko is the strongest (S Level) Bijuu of the Japanese Myth."
Beasts don't have "ranks" or "levels" in japanese mythology. And if they had, kyuubi would never be the most powerful.

14- " Its body has a red fur; Kyuubi represents the element of Fire."
Foxes really have fire controling abilities in mythology, but that is not their only element. Some foxes have specifical elements, like earth or even water, but those are really rare, usually foxes will only be able to control fire or lightning. Also, even though most foxes have red fur, they fur becomes white, silvery or golden when they gain their ninth tail.

15- "Kyuubi proceeds to rip its enemies with its huge claws. At the same time his fur may shoot fireballs similar to meteorites endlessly, instantly destroying villages."
Kyuubi are not that huge. Most are the size of normal foxes, the biggest one I remember is Tamamo no Mae, who was probably not bigger than a horse, but I could be wrong. Also, huge kyuubi shooting fire balls from their fur incessantly would be hilarious, imagine them doing what they usually do: copulating with humans.

16- "More info about Kyuubi: The Kyuubi is an intelligent demon that is capable of speech and has a scathing, sadistic personality."
This is not completely true. While most foxes are sadistic tricksters, there are also dozens of myobu, who are the servants of Inari and are charming and benevolent.

I hope you people understand that I meant nothing offensive thowards the creator of that topic or the people that refer from it. The only thing I intended upon making this was to show people how we should always triple-check the information we get from places such as forums. My work here is done, I hope some of you take this seriously. If you really want a reliable source, I really recommend Youkaimura.

Yours truly,
Aurora Colle.

You are welcome ^^ Yep, the Obakemono project and Wikipedia got the wrong beast x_x goodness, the only thing Houkou and Peng'hou have to do is both are dogs and live in trees o_o" I had never really liked Obakemono project from the first time I saw it, it seemed to focus more on the chinese than the japanese side of the legend, the houkou is a perfect proof of that.

I'm familiar with Youkaimura too. Plus, to add, if a kitsune were to release power from it's body, there have been sources that I've read that say they come from the tails anyway. And I think everyone is "assuming" that Orochi is the Hachibi, just because he had 8 tails. But I was wondering that too.... he died, but somehow comes back to get his sword??...that was cut out of one of his tails....And wasn't there a bit in the legend that said Susano-wo cut up his corpse, and that's how he found Ama(or Ame)-Murakumo no Tsurugi..... so how did Orochi put himself back together.... Did you want me to pass on info if I find any true information on a "Bijuu" myth. I tend to look at Jap. sites anyway
I actually did find something, that supports that site, and may be where they got it from. But this is not the original legend, just information that they may have found, or even made up, in the "Naruto world". [link] They don't source where they found their information (I know it's in Jap.....), but do have some complex maths signifying their strength, and this may be where that other site got their information on who is more powerful...maybe
I remember seeing that info in a chinese site :) actually, not one, but various sites, and all of them had the word "naruto" in them... Searching for mythical figures she mentions and are not found in other legend sources (like the priest who imprisoned raijuu) also only retrieves naruto sites.

I remember the part about Susanoo cutting him too, he takes the sword from one of Orochi's tails. One's got to wonder how it comes back after being killed and having it's corpse cut, I think even if he did, the cuts in the corpse would be really nasty and probably impair him when fighting. Another thing that sounded confusing there was about Kyuubi breaking the sword, I mean, how does Susanoo get it whole in Orochi's corpse then? I also remember read that the sword was passed from emperor to emperor, so how did he get it back? And you just reminded me about the fact that the swords name was not always Kusanagi, which clashes with the myth shown in the thread. It would be really appreciatted if you could send me the info you got on that myth, thak you. :D

No problem. I'm really interested in this myth too. I have this underlining love and hate for Ama-Murakumo... I love the sword, it fasinates me, but I also know that it haves terrible power. I found these two sites on the Orochi myth: [link] [link] The second doesn't have the best english, but you can understand it.
Also, I know a few other things on the sword (I'll tell you when I find the information again). Apparently, it brings bad luck. Although it is a holy sword, it's only by this title because Susano-wo had it, and because Amaterasu passed it onto the first emperor. The sword is reportedly kept in a shrine, away from the public. The last person to see the sword died several days later (depends on the source exactly how long). So it would depend on the person. Someone like Susano-wo or Takeda could weild its power, but they were important people. The sword must know and will be obediant accordingly. However, if Orochi were to still be alive, I think the sword would recognise it as its owner. It's said to have the power of Wind (because of Takeda, and its new name), Fire (created within Orochi) and Storm (because of Susano-wo).
バカ、僕・・・ I mixed up Takeda and Takeru again.... I found a page with more information on Ama-Murakumo. This may interest you as well. [link]
Sorry for the continual replies.... I also have these, if you like. Another version of the Orochi legend: [link] and this is the shrine that Ame-Murakumo is kept: [link] . Hope this helps you ^_^. Like I said before, I'm really interested in this particular myth too.
